“You seem like a nice person, Rick, but I’ve lived with diabetes for 30 years and you’ve just read a book!”
My first patient as a “real RN” gave me that response above when he was telling me how his diabetes gives him “symptoms!” Right after I quoted something from a book! Yeah, I definitely learned a lesson, a big one, from my first patient ever and I’m so glad I did! That patient helped me get my nursing career off to a much better start because he knew what he was “feeling” and he knew to speak up to me!
