Wolves (genus Canis) are large, wild canids known for their social packs, intelligence, and iconic howls, with the gray wolf (Canis lupus) being the most common species, closely related to dogs. They are carnivores that hunt large ungulates like deer and moose, but also smaller prey, and are distinguished by their less pointed ears and muzzle compared to other canids. Wolves live in family groups, communicate through howls and body language, and have a wide, though shrinking, range across Eurasia and North America.
