The jaguar (Panthera onca) is the largest cat in the Americas and the third largest in the world, known for its powerful build and distinctive coat with rosette-shaped spots, though melanistic (black) individuals also exist. A solitary apex predator, it is an excellent swimmer and climber, using its incredibly strong jaws to pierce the skulls of prey, and is found in diverse habitats from rainforests to grasslands in Mexico, Central, and South America.
