The need for “consequences!”

I have an idea that most people think that if they don’t have “consequences” in their life that it will help create a better world for them. I, personally, don’t agree! I believe that for most folks, having consequences in their daily living actually adds a great degree of “happiness” to their life! How? Read on …

Consequences adds much to our daily lives! Imagine that when growing up your parents never put any consequences in your environment. No matter what you did, you would never be punished! Now, at the time that might feel good but in the long run you would live to regret it because even if your parents didn’t provide punishment, other people would and you would not have learned how to deal with it and your life would not be so wonderful!

I put consequences into my life many times because I know that I could get away with a lot of things because nobody else would provide such “repercussions!” Here’s an example … I tell my clients that they must give me 24 hours cancellation notice to cancel a session and not lose that session. But, I also must give them 24 hours notice myself if I am going to cancel a session! If I don’t then they get a totally free session! Why do I do this? For one, I think it only fair that if they have consequences for failing to do something that I also should have consequences for failure to do the same thing! Another reason is that much of other businesses like doctors and lawyers and such require it from their clients but do not provide the same “end results” for themselves (they might require a 24 hour notice for cancellations but don’t require themselves to give the same in return!) Also, when I provide consequences for myself I end up being a better personal trainer because if I can do anything I want and there is no repercussions then I become a “lazy trainer!” Do you want a to hire a “lazy trainer?” I think not!

So “consequences” for myself and my clients must be done properly so that the “client/trainer” relationship will be a good one! Thanks, “The” Trainer/Inside Out Fitness
